In response to the ever increasing demand for faster service along the Las Vegas Valley’s busiest roads, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is working on building a premier rapid transit system, ACE, that will connect the metropolitan area. Every aspect of ACE’s function and design will parallel Las Vegas’ world-class attractions and redefine the future of transit in southern Nevada.
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is currently conducting a transportation study of the resort corridor. The study’s objective is to specifically examine public transportation improvement options, including dedicated travel lanes for a proposed ACE rapid transit line. If feasible, the ACE Resort Corridor line would provide a higher grade transit service from the South Strip Transfer Terminal (SSTT) to downtown Las Vegas via Las Vegas Boulevard and Casino Center Boulevard.
The project’s overall goals include improving mobility and the environment, optimizing transit operating efficiencies, and integrating land use and transportation to support transit in a cost effective manner. At this time, the resort corridor is already substantially congested with traffic. The operation of the existing transit service is often affected by traffic congestion, pedestrian conflicts, and roadway incidents, resulting in extended travel times. The ACE Resort Corridor rapid transit service would incorporate design elements to mitigate these factors, providing an attractive travel alternative for residents and visitors within the corridor by reducing travel times and improving transit access.
The proposed project would include dedicated lanes for transit vehicles along the majority of the route with nearly 44 stops between the South Strip Transfer Terminal (SSTT) and future transit hub in downtown Las Vegas. Design of the stops would consist of a platform area, station marker signage, and ticket vending and information kiosks. The rapid transit service will also utilize large capacity multiple-door vehicles for faster boarding and reduced dwell times. These elements will combine to enhance the service to customers in the busiest route in the valley.
We will continue to keep you apprised of the study and the proposed options.
