Club Ride Guaranteed Ride Home

One of the most common concerns shared by commuters is being stranded without access to a car. Club Ride's Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program helps alleviate this concern. GRH is a free benefit offered to Club Ride commuters who carpool, vanpool, take transit, bicycle, or walk to work.

Guaranteed Ride Home Program Guidelines

1. What is the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program?
This is our version of “commuter insurance” for those who regularly carpool, take transit, vanpool, bicycle or walk to work. If you are without your car and experience a qualified emergency, we’ll pay to get you home.

2. What is a qualified emergency?

Emergency circumstances that qualify for a reimbursable ride home under the GRH program include:
  • personal illness/emergency
  • unexpected illness/emergency of an immediate family member
  • your carpool/vanpool driver has an emergency or unexpected overtime
  • your supervisor requires you to work unscheduled overtime
3. What does not qualify as an emergency?
There are other common situations which do not qualify as an emergency under the GRH program. These include:
  • Personal errands
  • Planned appointments/meetings
  • On-the-job injury
  • Weather-related events
  • Transportation system delays
  • Building closings
  • Voluntary overtime
  • Termination
4. Where can I go?
Every emergency is different, and an employee may need to reach a different destination during each unexpected situation. The GRH program offers flexibility, allowing you to choose from a variety of destinations that serve your unique needs, including:
  • Home
  • Your vehicle (if you are parked at a Park & Ride lot or transit station)
  • Medical facilities
  • To your child’s daycare or school
  • Interim stops will also be accepted if they are part of the emergency
5. How do I get there?
The Club Ride GRH program allows you to choose the most efficient means to get where you need to go during a qualified emergency. Choose between taking a taxi, taking transit, having a co-worker drive you home, or using a rental car company. You will be reimbursed for the taxi-fare, transit fare or rental car fee. If a co-worker drives you home, we’ll reimburse them for their mileage.

6. How often can I use GRH?
Each registered commuter can use the program up to five (5) times per calendar year.

7. How does it work?
The Club Ride GRH Program is designed to be as simple and easy to use as possible. If you are a Club Ride member and you experience a qualified emergency, simply follow these easy steps:

1st: Choose the most efficient manner of getting home (taxi, transit, co-worker, rental car).

2nd: Pay for your taxi/transit ride or rental car, and keep your receipt. If you receive a ride from a co-worker, document the trip mileage. (Note: tips for taxi drivers cannot be reimbursed)

3rd: When you return to work, see your onsite transportation coordinator (TC) to complete a trip summary describing your emergency and attach your original receipt (or mileage documentation). Your TC will send the information to Club Ride for processing and you will be mailed a reimbursement check. Be sure to keep a copy for your records.

8. What is a trip summary?
Club Ride will provide your company’s transportation coordinator with a supply of trip summary forms. Your TC will help you complete this form, approve and sign it, and sent it to Club Ride.

9. How will I be reimbursed?
When we receive your trip summary and original receipt, Club Ride will mail a reimbursement check directly to your home. Employer-provided services will be reimbursed directly to the Club Ride employer partner.

10. Does my employer have to be part of Club Ride?

Yes. In order for you, as a commuter, to participate in GRH, your employer must be a Club Ride partner, with a designated Transportation Coordinator. If your company is not currently a member of Club Ride, please call us for more information, and we will be glad to speak with your employer about joining. (Please note: students are not eligible for the Guaranteed Ride Home program.)

Use of a rental car is discouraged for trips of fewer than 30 miles one-way; reimbursements will be provided for standard one-day rental car fares and refueling receipts; agency refueling charges, damage-waivers, and other extraneous fees are excluded from reimbursement. Drivers must be over 25 years of age and present a valid driver’s license and major credit card to rent a vehicle.
